Item Details and Description

This is a 1980s light-medium weight deadstock (new but unsold stock) tsumugi (pongee silk); used for making an everyday wear kimono.

Pedigree: This is called deadstock -- new/never used stock, but aged.

Description: The fabric is quite distinct with an interwoven indigo-black with shades of lavender and light purples; the fabric is slightly textured to the touch with some threads with 'bumps' in the weave; The Design is of lengthwise compacted pinstripes that are not apparent in lower light, in bright light there is slight iridescence; originally intended for making an everyday kimono or haori.

NOTE: This Tsumugi piece's pinstripes are rendered as thin and pixelated to the extent that from a distance in lower light fabric looks solid; This rather unusual fabric's color and the pinstripes were a challenge to capture, so, our pics don't do it justice.
